OLD NEWS

  • Saturday 30 September in Scordia (Catania), we took part to the Convegno Internazionale Déodat De Dolomieu with the talk “Sismicità e pericolosità nell’area iblea” by Andrea Cannata (see pictures gallery).
  • Friday 29th September we were in Piazza Università – Catania from 18:00 to 24:00, to take part in Sharper Night, the European researchers night. We showed our results in monitoring the sea using microseism and as gift FREE JUMBS (see pictures gallery)!!!
  • From the group: On 25th of September togheter with researchers of University of Messina we took part to “Newton” a scientific television program of RAI, showing some engineering seismology experiment for seismic site response (see pictures gallery).
  • From the group: Francesco will present at IUGG2023, 11–20 July 2023 Berlin (Germany) the work Panzera et al. (2023) “Set up interpolation scheme techniuqes to map site amplifications at local scale from seismological nad geophysical data” – session S11 – Site response in urban areas
  • From the group: On 13th June 2023 at INGV-Osservatorio etneo Catania was the kick-off meeting of the project I-VOLCAN (Italian VOLCanological observatory in ANtarctica) lead by Andrea University of Catania (see pictures gallery).
  • From the group: On 12th June 2023 Andrea and Francesco visited the high school – Liceo statale Leonardo (Giarre, Catania). During out visit we spoke about earthquakes, seismic hazard and risk. Students also performed earthquake locations.
  • From the group: On 8-9 June 2023, a meeting of the i-waveNET project was held in Palermo. During this meeting, members of the Geophysics Lab gave seminars concerning microseism analysis and its integration with other data (sea wave buoys, HF radar, hindcast maps) with the aim to characterize the sea state in terms of wave activity (see pictures gallery).
  • From the group: On 29th May 2023 we visited in the frame of the Seismology and Geodesy classes the multi-parametric station of Serra la nave (Etna volcano). Our thanks to Salvatore Alparone, Graziano Larocca and Danilo Contrafatto of INGV – Osservatorio etneo (see pictures gallery).
  • From the group: Some pictures of EGU2023 in Vienna concerning Marco, Adriana and Flavio Cannavò (INGV – Osservatorio etneo) are posted in the pictures gallery.
  • From the group: Alfio Marco will present at EGU2023, 23–28 April 2023 Vienna (Austria) the work Borzì et al. (2023) “Microseism and Medicane Apollo: a new approach to investigate the Mediterranean extreme weather events” – session SM3.1 – Ambient Seismic Noise and Seismic Interferometry
  • From the group: Dr. Flavio Cannavo’ (INGV -Catania) will shows a poster at EGU2023, 23–28 April 2023 Vienna (Austria) in which some of us are involved. The title is “Machine Learning and Microseism as a Tool for Sea Wave Monitoring” – session ITS1.13/AS5.2 – Machine learning for Earth System modeling
  • From the group: we are involved in EGU2023, 23–28 April 2023 Vienna (Austria), participating with Francesco as convener in the session NH4.4 “Earthquake site effect evaluation: recent advances and new perspectives“.
  • From the group: Adriana will present at EGU2023, 23–28 April 2023 Vienna (Austria) the work Iozzia et al. (2023) “How topographic changes influenced infrasound amplitude during Mt. Etna’s 2021 lava fountains” – session GMPV8.6 – Volcano monitoring and imaging with networks.
  • From the group: Our group will be at the “Salone dello studente” 29-30 March 2023 with the laboratory “La sismologia come strumento per ascoltare la terra”. You will find us at Cittadella Universitaria via Santa Sofia from 9.30-12.30 am.
  • From the group: Andrea will be present at the exhibition “Terremoti d’Italia” organized by the Civil protection department at Villa Bellini di Catania with a talk (supposed time 11.00 am).
  • From the group: Our group visited ENI Green Data Center Ferrera Erbognone (PV) on 16th February 2023, with us also the colleagues Prof. Concetto Spampinato (Associate Professor of Information processing systems at Unit) and Prof. Gaetano Ortolano (Associate Professor of petrology and petrography at Unict). We presented our research topics and we explored possible collaborations (see pictures gallery).
